Notebooks and Backpacks to First Cycle Students

The Chamber of Coimbra delivered this Monday (19/09) school manuals, exercise books and backpacks to students of the first cycle of basic education in public schools in the county.

School textbooks and exercise books are intended for the beneficiaries of school social action (first three grades of family allowance) and backpacks for all students in the first cycle.

According to CampingTopgear,  the offer, which results from the decision of the city government to “reinforce school social action” at various levels, complementing measures that have been adopted by the central government and municipalities, aims to “soften the difficulties that families have been experiencing” and contribute To “guarantee all children equal opportunities for access to education and school success,” said Mayor Manuel Machado.

The extension of social support measures to students in the third step of the family allowance “allows more than 900 students to also have free access to textbooks and other goods and services provided,” said Manuel Machado.

The Coimbra Chamber supports, this school year, about 2,700 students of the approximately 4,800 enrolled in public schools in the county.

The municipality’s investment in education reaches close to 4.5 million euros in the academic year 2016/17 (representing an increase of around 10% over the previous year), most of which in school meals (around Two million euros) and in school social support (about 1.5 million euros).
